Many of our clients ask us about the tax appeal process these days, and for good reason. We are in one of the worst real estate cycles since Propositions 8 and 13 were passed in the 1970s. Proposition 8 provides tax relief to property owners when the value of their properties declines, and in today’s market, tax relief can be a huge expense savings. There is a narrow window of time for filing an appeal with the Assessor: for most Bay Area counties that deadline is September 15.
One of the specialties of Hulberg & Associates is the handling of property tax appeals. Some of our clients have saved over $100,000 in annual property taxes.
The attached article provides a brief overview of the tax appeal process. This is an overview only, based on our own experience in providing tax appeal valuation and consulting services. If you have additional questions or concerns regarding your property tax appeal, contact Norm Hulberg or Yvonne Broszus, at (408) 279-1520.
